On September 12th 2012, the VPFFA Benevolent Fund Committee hosted a 4 on 4 charity hockey tournament to raise money for a cause that hit close to home. Matthew’s House Hospice located in Alliston, Ontario offers caring, compassionate, non-medical support to individuals, care-givers and loved ones facing a life threatening illness or grieving a loss. Matthew’s House Hospice was responsible for providing care and support to Lori Greenfield and her family. Lori is the wife of former VPFFA member Rick Greenfield. Lori had been diagnosed with terminal cancer so members of the Benevolent Fund Committee decided to organize a charity event dedicated to Matthew’s House Hospice and the Greenfield family.

Over 150 players and spectators came out and and supported the all day hockey tournament which took place at the Vaughan Sports Village. The Greenfield family as well as a representative from Matthew’s House were in attendance to accept a cheque for $3244. The event was a great success thanks to the dedication of the Benevolent Fund Committee and our VPFFA members.

A Special thanks to:
- Elliott Chewins for catering the event
