Movember 2012

Movember Canada supports men’s health issues, specifically prostate cancer and men’s mental health initiatives.

The funds raised are directed to programs run directly by Movember their men’s health partner, Prostate Cancer Canada. Together, these two channels work together to ensure that Movember funds are supporting a broad range of innovative, world-class programs.

The 2012 Benevolent Committee Movember Challenge was one for the record books. 35 of Vaughan’s bravest raised a total of $13, 430.00 for this great cause. Our team was entered into the “Great Canadian Fire Fighter Challenge’ and finished an impressive 5th out of 230 teams throughout the country for total money raised! This would not have been possible without the generosity of the members of this local and their families. A very special mention to a few who went far and beyond:

  • Jeff Lucas-donated his entire retirement cash out ($1100.00)
  • John Wilmot-donated $10 to every member ($350.00)
  • Ron Miller-most amount of money collected by an individual ($1700.00)
  • Kevin Plested-created a voting page for members to pick their favorite mo’s
  • The Office of City Manager-donated 2 golf foursomes
  • The Office of the Fire Chief-donated 2 VFRS jackets

Our 2013 Movember Challenge is definitely going to test out last year’s numbers. Our goal is to have 50 members raising money and awareness for the often neglected issues of men’s health. We are very confident that we can make that happen!

Kindest Regards,

VPFFA Benevolent Fund Committee
